Intermediate Program

Intermediate Course - Level 1

The Intermediate program is “secondary school” for you and your dog.  You and your dog are challenged using distractions of food, other dogs, sights and sounds.  The distance between you and your teammate is increased and the length of time apart is varied.  You will learn hand signals, voice commands and foot signals.  These are real-life commands and are the corner stones to leash-less work with your dog. This program is divided into 3 sections. Intermediate Level 1 is $300 for 20 weeks. This course is offered two times per week, and at 2 different times per day. The course is once per week but we offer the 2nd class per week free of charge. Intermediate Level 1 classes are Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 or 7:30 pm.

Intermediate Course - Level 2

Intermediate Level 2 classes are also 20 weeks at a cost of $300. These classes are also offered twice per week, two times per day on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 or 7:30 pm. In these classes you and your dog will be working at further distances apart from 40’ to out of sight, further distractions of people, food, objects, other dogs and stabilization exercises. Included in this program are the exercises required to learn for the Canine Good Neighbour Test. The CGN Test and a pass are required for Sparkwatch’s Therapy Dog Programs. We currently have 2 programs in session. The first program is our Therapy Dog Visitation Program at a local long-term care facility which we visit once per month. Our 2nd and newest program is our Therapy Dog Reading Program currently being offered at a local public school for their ESL and Special Needs classes. Both of these programs require specific skills from your dog. Dogs must be able to sit or stand politely while being petted. With the Reading Program, dogs must be able to down/stay while be petted by the children as they read to the dog.
